Well said. @Home (which I don't have yet) means three things to me: fast access, no need for another phone line, and a constant connection. With these weird new modems that CNBC's talking about today -- 30x faster than current analog modems; works transparently across your current voice line -- they've taken care of two of those three features. I worry that by the time ATHM gets its act in gear, I'll be able to go down to my local Fry's and get one of these new modems for $100, and I won't have to deal with the cable people. That would sure make it tougher for ATHM to break in.

BTW, "analog modem" is redundant, and "ISDN modem" is a misnomer. "Modem" implies conversion from analog to digital. Any techies know whether cable modems are really "modems" in the pure sense of the word?
