Republicans are politicians... they want to get elected... their appointees and apparatchiks want to keep their jobs, advance their careers. So, they do and say what they think will help them best. By and large, they're not nearly as bad as the Left. They still respect and try to protect American values and traditions. So, hopefully, this thinking will prove resilient enough. Could be that Trump's greatest accomplishment will have been to "out" the Left as the dangerous radicals they really are.
