Dear lan@SI,

Again, this is a simple notice, required under GDPR this year, stating that our advertising partners use cookies. That our advertising partners use cookies has always been the case, long before this notice was provided.

You had a choice. You could have purchased a lifetime ad-free membership during the choice window back in 2013. Classic paid lifetime SI Members have zero interaction with our ad partners. If we offered you a classic paid lifetime SI membership at an inflation-adjusted equivalent price, would you be willing to pay for it now?

I thank you for your concern about our UX and traffic. If it helps with your concerns, SI traffic, as measured by page views logged by the third party StatCounter service, has increased. It is significantly higher this year than last, last year than the year before that, and also significantly higher than when Knight Sac Media assumed ownership of Silicon Investor back in 2012.

Our implementation of the GDPR consent dialog is a plain jane, vanilla, virtually unmodified implementation based upon the recommended Quantcast example provided to us, along with the ultimatum that without it, we could no longer participate in web advertising.

Regards,

@Dima

Here is a site that makes you jump through a bunch of hoops just to read an article. I come across this everyday when doing Tweets:
