Man killed over currency crisis debate

JAKARTA (Reuters) - An Indonesian man killed a university
student after a heated argument over the country's currency
crisis, the official Antara news agency reported on Tuesday.

It said the man, identified as NN, stabbed Ahmad Nasution to
death Monday in Tangerang, near Jakarta, after they argued
about Indonesia's worst economic crisis in decades.

Antara said the suspect, who has been arrested by police,
was furious with Nasution's opinion.

"NN could not accept the argument of the victim. NN felt he had
to get revenge," Jon Effendi, a neighbor of Nasution, was
quoted as saying.

Antara gave no further details.

Indonesia announced fresh IMF-sponsored economic
reforms last Thursday. The new measures supersede an
earlier program agreed in October with the International
Monetary Fund in exchange for a $43 billion bail-out.

The rupiah has tumbled over 75 percent since early July when
the region's economic crisis began.
