I think the "womanly" virtues would only hinder a man in his relationships with other men. Men aren't ready to discuss their inner lives with their buddies. I would go so far as to say that a man who made a habit out of tearful confidences to "the guys" woudl soon have no friends left. Apparently they aren't really supposed to do thoughtful things for each other either (my husband explained this to me) that is what wives and girlfriends are for.
