I’d get rid of a lot of these child labor laws. I want people starting to work at 11, 12.”-Moore President Trump plans to nominate conservative commentator Stephen Moore to the Federal Reserve Board. Yet, some of his past writings have disparaged women and supported child labor. According to The New York Times, while Moore says he will apologize for some of his past writings, he will not apologize for others. “Frankly, I didn’t even remember writing some of these they were so long ago,” he said on ABC’s “This Week.” He added that some of the pieces even embarrassed him. In his writings about women, he has written that it is dangerous for them to earn more money than men do because it “could be disruptive to family stability.” In 2000, he accepted questions from C-Span viewers. One caller asked Moore about black women currently earning more than black men in America. He responded: “It’s not a good thing that black women are making more than black men today,” Mr. Moore replied. “In fact, you know, the male needs to be the breadwinner of the family. One of the reasons you’ve seen the decline of the family, not just in the black community, but also it’s happening now in the white community as well, is because women are more economically self-sufficient.” More, he has also enthusiastically supported child labor. During a 2016 debate on minimum wage, Moore said he’d like to get more Americans into the labor force. “I’m a radical on this,” he said. “I’d get rid of a lot of these child labor laws. I want people starting to work at 11, 12.” Support for Moore is waning among Senate Republicans. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) said, “I’m not enthused about supporting him. Look at his writings! I’m not enthused. I’m a woman.” Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) said that the “drip by drip” of allegations against Moore for a tax lien and child support payments to his ex-wife “doesn’t help any.” mavenroundtable.io
