Only pointless in that recognizing those things should be patently obvious to anyone who's followed Apple through the years.

The only thing wrong with it is the narrative that Tim Cook would think there's anything wrong with Apple to begin with, or that he would ask anyone's advice about it if he thought there was.

Orion,

First thing that comes to mind is pointless article
People love to make Tim Cook the evil mastermind behind the Apple ecosystem. I thought that part was overdone. As to the criticism of Apple products, there is probably some truth in some of what he is talking about, but I don't think it is all as bad as he says. But I think it is good to take Apple to task on the things it does do wrong.

All that being said, I do think Apple does more right than most of the other technology companies but that is just my opinion. I was thinking about my new iPhone. It is really nice and works really well. I think Apple has done a good job with it. Also got a new iPad Pro recently. It works really nicely but I haven't really tested its abilities.

Magic... well what is that? Tim Cook is not a villain he's just a guy running a giant incorporeal legal fiction known as a corporation.

The two Steves were guys who saw technology as ushering in a new and better age. Guys who liked to watch the original Star Trek because it gave a hopeful vision of a benevolent future. A future where technology took us to a better philosophical understanding of our place in the universe.

Apple was a company that was run by a guy who took LSD on a spiritual quest, and went to India on a spiritual quest. It was a technology company that wanted to humanize tech and prioritize humans.

Its very motto was Think Different... it was the antithesis corporate think. The guys who ran it even looked different. They didn't wear ties... one of them didn't even wear shoes at the start. One spent his money to finance a huge music festival like Woodstock. The corporation was named after a type of fruit by a fruitarian.

At least that's what its DEVOTEES thought. They didn't just love Apple's computers they loved Apple"s attitude. They loved APPPLE. Microsoft was the villain. It sold a crap product that was defective. It was the corporate product. Microsoft was in business to make money, period. If if meant copying Apple they did it. If screwing it customers was profitable they did it. If it was immoral that didn't matter.

Apple did the right thing, even if it was loosing at first because it did the right thing... eventually it would win out.

Maybe the devotees were naive... probably.

But that was the magic. That was what was different about Apple.

======

Its motto now should be Think Corporate. How can we squeeze more profits out by making our products unrepairable, not how can we usher in a better age.

WATCH OUT! CRISIS!!! Apple says your iPhone could injure you. A repair specialist is appalled

======

For better or worse that's what it is now. Its not like I'm a pie in the sky guy either. I'm invested in oil. I drive a car. I build homes. But that's what it is. The magic is a thing of the past. Technology is something we use and for many of us its what we use to survive not thrive.
