Addi,

Thanks for the link, looking at the graph for shorts, no short covering since July of 97 short covering just begun last couple of weeks. There could be short squeez once momentum players jumps on.

On a pure technical basis, it does look like ASND is moving up (higher highs and higher lows). It will meet resistance at $33 (expect a pullback), then at $36 (expect another pullback) and then again at $39. Breaking through $36 would be significant since this would be a triple top. This also implies that breaking through $36 will be a significant obstacle. $40 per share is going to be tough for ASND to get to in the near term.

To all that responded to the question.

Let's see, Ascend made the restated/deflatted number that they came up with Wall Street. Hey! I guess that's something to be excited about.

I looked at the reelase, here's the facts:

Revenue year over year basically flat.
Costs up.
Result: Tighter margins
Reduced net income (again year over year).

Ascend is now fighting to maintain market share. Their inability to continue to grow (revenues) could slow acceptance since most IPS/Carriers don't want to partner with a company that may not be around for long. Now, don't get me wrong - I don't think Ascend is going away anytime soon. It's just that given the choice between a powerful machine like Cisco and the constant growth they show and Ascend which looks like it's in continuous re-build mode a carrier is going to partner with the company that can service them, now and into the future.

Ascend may hit $40, but this won't be due to facts. The corporate officers are "comfortable with the numbers". They know that if they indicate otherwise that all remaining faith will be lost....they'll be another Apple. If thay happens the carriers and ISP's go to Cisco in spades! The stock tanks, etc. etc. etc.. The only chance Ascend has it to say that they're comfortable with the numbers and hope that they can make it happen. Meanwhile, Cisco keeps on chunking along, picking up market share along the way.

Desperate times bring desperate measures.

Just my opinion. I hope I'm wrong cause I'm long on Ascend (my little risky experiment)..Hey - they may just pull it off...but I'm much longer on Cisco.
