Hi Eduardo:

If RBOCs deploy ADSL by the end of this year, this
will be one year too late. Because its rate is limited
to around 2 Mb/sec, ADSL is in essence a transitional
technology, between ISDN and cable modems/LMDS which
allow speeds of up to 40Mb/sec. Also, cable modems/LMDS
will have much higher rates for the uplink than ADSL.
ADSL companies were really hoping that massive deployments
would start this year. Because of delays, they are all
running out of money. AMTX was the first one to run
short of cash, which is why they had to sell out to
TXN. Also, the company with the truly innovative technology
was AMTX, which developed the DMT modulation scheme.
AWRE added a new twist to it, which is why they had a big
run today. However, all x-DSL stocks tend to cycle
up and down. Right now, AWRE is up, WSTL and PAIR are
down. IMHO, PAIR is a much better company than AWRE.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
