Competition is the point here; the Tel. Comm. Act was supposed to open up all this competition; it hasn't. What I would like to see is more involvement of the computer folks in tel. comm. and television. I think the move to digital TV with an emphasis on TV being just a large screen computer is the correct direction. What we are really talking about here is replacing the telephone with a digitally networked computer. That would take care of integrating radio, television, and telephone all from one platform. This is how if should be now that we do have the technologies to affordable support this vision. What I am looking forward to is upgrades in the internet so that full streaming stereo cd quality radio and television is possible over the internet without continual delays. This is what is being worked on right now. 50 years from now there will be an infrastructure where the digital interstate highway can handle more than what is thrown at it. We are still in the Model T phase with dirt roads. I just installed version 5 of RealAudio and still find that it is only good for playing in the middle of the night. At that time though, I get a beautiful stereo reception of radio stations from across the country over the internet. It is like going through all of the birth of radio all over again.
