Barrick makes $285M buyout offer for Acacia Mining

Barrick Gold (NYSE: GOLD) offers to acquire all shares it does not already own in Acacia Mining ( OTCPK:ABGLF) for $285M through a share for share exchange of 0.153 Barrick shares for each ordinary Acacia share.

--------------------------------------------

Will see more dilution for common shareholders. The issue w/ any gold miner there is a limited amount of gold and as it is mined over time, reserves must be replaced or over time the assets becomes less valuable (ie reserves fall). Therefore, it becomes one where shares are used as currency to add more future reserves and if the mining costs are not reduced and/or mineral/ore prices do not rise, the asset loses value.

Therefore, the long term value bet is the Gold prices must be higher for this (expand reserve) strategy to work.

Also, mines outside the US have some small political risk especially in some of these countries where there is little rule of law.
