I beleive ADSL technology will be much easier to install and loss costly. The fact that AWRE has moved so much today and with the news release from AFCI which made a deal back in Nov. with Aware, must be part of what well hear next week from Intel, Cpq and MSFT. MSFT is smart getting into the two best ways to get faster speed over the internet. ADSL is quicker than cable.
Here are some news posting that I put together.
Good Luck!

Advanced Fibre Communications and Efficient
Networks Sign Agreement to Deliver ATM Over ADSL

Business Wire - January 20, 1998 11:28

PETALUMA, Calif., and DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1998--Advanced Fibre
Communications(R) Inc. (AFC) (NASDAQ:AFCI) and Efficient Networks Inc. announced
today a strategic agreement to jointly deliver Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) based
Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) solutions to telecommunications service
providers. Leveraging the ability of ADSL to utilize twisted-pair telephone lines for multimedia
and high speed data communications, Advanced Fibre Communications and Efficient
Networks' end to end solution will cost-effectively deliver an ATM-based ADSL service from
AFC's UMC 1000(R) 3rd Generation Digital Loop Carrier (3GDLC)(TM) to subscribers using
Efficient Networks' SpeedStream family of ATM/ADSL customer premises equipment (CPE).
Under the terms of the agreement, full interoperability will be established between AFC's UMC
1000 3GDLC(TM) ADSL plug-in cards, and Efficient Networks' SpeedStream family of
network interface cards and modem products. The agreement calls for AFC to market ADSL
products developed by Efficient Networks for AFC's UMC 1000 3GDLC. Initially, both
companies will focus on delivering products based on the industry standard Analog
Devices-Aware Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) chipset. By combining AFC's UMC 1000 3GDLC
products that interface with Efficient Networks' SpeedStream 3020 ATM/ADSL DMT adapters
or the SpeedStream 5010 ATM/ADSL DMT modems at the customer premises, the solution
will be able to support up to 6 Mbps downstream connections over standard telephone wiring.
"Teaming with an industry leader in the ATM space is a testament to AFC's commitment to
delivering ATM-based services and transport to our customers," said Ryan Koontz, manager of
business development at AFC. "Working elbow to elbow with Efficient Networks, who set the
paradigm for ATM desktop solutions with their 25.6 Mbps ATM adapter, is a mile marker for
us." "The pairing of our easy to deploy ATM/ADSL CPE products with the service flexibility of
the UMC 1000 will enable rapid deployment to a large customer base," said James Nadeau, vice
president of business development at Efficient Networks. "Each of our products plays an
integral role in delivering this ATM/ADSL solution, and carriers looking to quickly ramp up
service will see substantial value in the AFC and Efficient solution."

Aware and AFC Announce Strategic Agreement to Deliver
an Integrated DMT ADSL Solution to the Global Carrier
Market

PR Newswire - November 19, 1997 17:32

BEDFORD, Mass., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq: AWRE), a
worldwide leader in xDSL (digital subscriber line) technology, and Advanced
Fibre Communications(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: AFCI), a leading manufacturer of local
loop access products, today announced a strategic agreement to deliver an
integrated DMT-based ADSL solution to the global carrier market that will
provide greater flexibility in deploying high-speed data services. The
companies will also engage in cooperative development, marketing and selling
of the system to provide added value and drive demand within the ADSL market.
The Aware/AFC ADSL Solution leverages the leadership of AFC in local loop
access and the leadership of Aware in DMT technology to provide an end-to-end
ANSI-compliant system. The integrated product offering will be based on the
flagship products of the two companies -- AFC's UMC 1000 3rd Generation
Digital Loop Carrier(TM) and Aware's X200 ADSL Access Router.
Providing ease of installation and cost reduction, the Aware/AFC ADSL
Solution enables carriers to deploy ADSL service from all of AFC's embedded
UMC digital loop carrier platforms, eliminating the need for additional
central office equipment. AFC's UMC 1000 line card can be easily installed in
an existing chassis, greatly reducing the incremental cost of ADSL deployment.
At the same time, Aware's X200 Access Router provides carriers with a feature-
rich customer premise solution.
Jim Bender, president and chief executive officer of Aware noted:
"Together with AFC, we can provide the global carrier market with an end-to-
end, ANSI-compliant system that delivers on the promise of multiple-vendor
interoperability."
James Hoeck, chief technologist and co-founder of AFC added: "AFC is
committed to developing standards-based solutions. The Aware/AFC Solution
provides carriers with the advantages of simplified installation and reduced
costs and the security of knowing that the system is ANSI-compliant."

Good morning Paul,

I noticed yesterday that Merrill Lynch seized the opportunity to attempt to dampen the enthusiasm of yesterday's rally and as I was telling Margaret this morning, I think the public must really be annoyed at these obvious stock manipulations. Why does not the justice department stop this? I guess there are too many loose and slick ways for those market movers to worm their way out of being called on the carpet for accounting

Todays actions may be a little subdued thanks to IBM and the overseas market today

FOCUS-Rupiah's plunge hurts Asian markets

(Adds Hong Kong closing quote)

By Sarah Davison

HONG KONG, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Indonesia's battered rupiah dragged most Asia markets back into a quagmire on Wednesday.

Strength in Tokyo and New York failed to spill over to the rest of Asia, where nearly every market reacted badly to an early session plunge in the rupiah to 12,000 to the U.S. dollar.

''Look, you get bear market spikes and everyone thinks everything's all right and pile in on the back on it, and then, whoops, the rupiah crashes and everyone rushes out again,'' one head trader said of earlier hopes that Asia was stabilising.

The rupiah hurtled lower on reports that Indonesian corporates were resorting to rupiah payments on U.S. dollar debt, while renewed political jitters added another broadside.

Take care
