Siemens, 3Com to offer network product in March
09:26 a.m. Jan 21, 1998 Eastern

MUNICH, Germany (Reuters) - Siemens AG and 3Com Corp. said
Wednesday that in March they will begin offering jointly
developed networking products that combine telephone and
Internet communications.

The products will enable phone companies to offer Internet
access over their existing networks without expanding their
network infrastructure, the companies said.

3Com also plans to offer a product developed with Siemens that
allows remote access to data stored on corporate networks or
the Internet.

Siemens said it is also working on Internet ''call waiting''
technology for its EWSD telecommunications switches. This would
make it possible for a home computer user, while accessing the
Internet over a phone line, to receive an on-screen message that
a phone call was waiting.
