I have long been concerned about technology and it's negative

impacts. Not because I am a Luddite, though the way I sometimes say things may make it seem like I am one. :) Unfortunately, tech is my field, though I am not inclined to talk about the things I have done in this area.

The point is this. Technology is not at fault. It is a product of man's imagination, and like every other product of his imagination (e.g., Science) it can be put to good use and to bad use. Once you see that, you must also see that you cannot place technology in the hands of an idiot just as you cannot give a sharp knife to a baby or a hand grenade to a monkey. We are not clever enough to look into the future and see a chain of consequences, though we might imagine them. That imagination should terrify us.

One class of people (often, though not always, bright) develops Science and Technology. Another class of people (often not so bright, at least in this area and its potential impact) uses these. The danger arises when a user cannot even begin to comprehend that he/she does not know that he/she does not know. This is an example of an idiot. I do not use the term disparagingly.

Here is one example of what I mean.
