<A capitalist strives to make money by doing his thing better and/or cheaper than his competition. A monopolist strives to make money using unscrupulous tactics to eliminate the competition. Surely with your level of experience in business, you can see this.>

But the governments ultimate interests lies with the consumer, and not corporate competition. At the present, MSFT has significantly reduced the prices of browsers and servers while simultaneously increasing the functionality set. This is a good thing. When, and only when MSFT is directly responsible for harming the consumer (not when a small subset of techies percieve it may happen) will the government actually act in the consumers best interest to intervene.

"The issue is that they are using business practices which are not in the interests of fair competition."

How do you determine what is and is not fair?

"A capitalist strives to make money by doing his thing better and/or cheaper than his competition."

I agree. And this is exactly what Microsoft is doing.
