The politics of monarchies... not the same as the politics we (those of us steeped in the western liberal tradition... and in the American flavor of opposition to monarchy in all its forms and flavors) believe in... Spend some time living in Saudi Arabia ? That should make clear how the boundaries between one culture and other are engaged... but should also make clear how the boundaries are crafted... out of differening world views... differing understanding of the nature of the relationships between people... If you do not see America... the idea that is America... as a deviation from the flow of history... ? If you do not see the Obama years as a radical departure from American history ? If you don't recognize that Europe and its people and its culture... are still mired in understanding themselves as "subjects of the Queen"... as property of the state... both in fact, and in mind... ? If you don't see the EU as an un-elected bureaucracy that has enabled a slow rolling coup over liberality ? The inroads in others ideas... that American success has enabled in the world... is tenuous, at best. Failing to see it... or the value of it... would not have you alone... Japan... South Korea... have eyes open more than others perhaps... Still, none so blind as those who will not see... doomed to repeat prior history... knowing not what they do... but bound with iron to own their choices... "knowing not" earning its own reward.
