My Windows XP machine was in use from 2005 to 2016. Only reason I upgraded was the CPU fan went, so SI bought me a new Dell Windows 7 box in Dec 2016. Been using that since.

The XP machine was very reliable. Even when updates were no longer available (2014 was the last year) it still ran perfect. No security problems at all.

I have a 2007 Lenovo laptop running XP, and it still serves well in limited use. Also have 2 desktops running Windows 7 Pro. Both excellent, given Microsoft's idiosyncrasies :(

Tried 8.1 and Windows 10. Not worth the aggro. Reverted to 7.

For me, software costs in the thousands prevent change. The Mac/Windows debate is always interesting.
