Michael, I don't think we'll be able to get Alex to weigh in on this one, grant or no grant. I get the impression he doesn't much like tobacco smoke. <vbg> A little historical background may explain this latest lunacy to come out of Sacramento. A few years back, there was a waiter in Marin County, who claimed to be a life-long nonsmoker and live in a nonsmoking household, who developed lung cancer and sued his employer under Workmen's Compensation laws, and won. I forget the exact dollar amount of the settlement, but do recall that it was fairly high. To my knowledge, this has been the only such lawsuit of this type. Public and court sentiment was 1000% with the waiter having to put up with second-hand smoke at his place of employment. Of course, the case was tried in Marin County, and this says a lot to anyone familiar with Marin County. I mean, you can find signs in that county that read, "Cholesterol Free Zone," for Pete's sake! Harking back to my childhood, I spent a great deal of time in the company of my grandfathers, both of whom smoked heavily. I would have had a hissy if anyone had tried to keep me from these fine gentlemen because their smoke might be harming me. I don't think I will ever come to dislike the odor of tobacco smoke--even the so-called stale stuff--because it takes me back to happy times with my grandfathers. It is inconceivable to me that anyone would consider separating children from their parents, or other loved ones, simply because they smoke. The way the California tide has turned in recent years, there were twenty kinds of plenty of food- and drink-server jobs available in nonsmoking establishments. No one was forced to work in a smoking environment, IMNSHO. Holly
