the only question is how far are the players willing to press the trade war

Marketing 101 says effective marketing is a simple two step process:
1. Prospective seller (Huawei) should do market research to determine what the prospective customer (US/UK/etc, etc.) wants/needs, and
2. Prospective seller determines if it can provide those needs at a competitive price.

I have never read any marketing studies that suggest that hit/hit harder is an effective marketing strategy that endears the customer to the seller.

Considering the considerable rhetoric surrounding the issue, may I suggest that Huawei offer its tools/products with quantum encryption. No possible backdoor snooping from the PRC or NSA.

A real win/win situation.

The real threat to Huawei is that if it does not address the needs of its potential customers, some other telecom disruptor will.
