There's corporate greed. For example supplying melamine instead of protein. But greed is a small factor overall in the big picture.

Companies sell things for as much as they can and hire the cheapest people who will do the job. Amazing people get paid more and get the bigger jobs to do.

Made in China talented people became available for a tenth the pay so companies hired them.

Greed in companies is limited by markets and competition. Greed is a problem in governments and the electorate who vote for free stuff and opm, killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.
