Holly, Yet another apology I owe for not responding sooner...got sick..am a whimp.... If you ever visited our offices and looked at what each of us have completed searches on your question would be answered. By a combination of having been part of the male environment since about 10 (and all the slang that accompanies it), shear dumb luck and references from the sites we find we have built a substantial library of "hot words." By identifying these, and continually updating the library, more and more sites are "scrambled." We don't block access to the description of the site, we replace all sexual descriptions, etc with a series of "OOOOOOOOOsssss"...so "Johnny" could arrive at a site called "toys for adults" and read "Welcome to the OOOO OOOOOO OOOO on the Internet designed to OOOO OOOO OOO until OOO OOOO OO your pants." This isn't the best example, but it's what came to mind on the spur of the moment. Our relationship with "Cyber Patrol" prevents the person from going into the site, no matter how many times they hit the "I am 21 years of age..blah, blah, blah" button. When people sign up for our product we ask them to notify us if they ever find something distasteful. We will review the site, ensure it meets the intent of our product (we don't want to keep people from reading healthy articles on the anatomy because of the word penis or vagina, etc.) The product is intended keep the innocent away from the "shady part of town" on the Internet. The idea of "passwording" the modem is fine with the exception that the child cannot access the internet unless mom/dad/etc approve it. Now the problem becomes..do the guardians feel like sitting next to "jr" while (s)he works on a project, using the net, for several hours? In a sense is what will happen is the basement door will be locked..but as soon as one of the kids wants to go down there and play, etc someones going to have to be with them. The other downside is if the guardian(s) are going out for the night...that means there is valuable "net" time being left idle. We're not experts on all modem software...there is always a chance there is something out there that is more sophisticated...but we have not seen it do date. Hope this all makes sense... T.R.
