WTO allows any country to file a complaint and seek a remedy. Free trade is a mess. It doesn't exist and never will but WTO is something.

The US subsidizes farming. I'm sending you a map made by Forbes showing how many millionaire farmers we created using government subsidies. China and every country in the world can sue us but most don't. I can do the same for big pharma and so much more. We cheat as much or more than anyone else. IMO, no country is ever fair so it's really trade and only trade. To that end, we use stuff made by each other so we can have the best of all worlds.

China makes most of the things we need. Not because it's superior but because American CEOs don't want to manufacture those things and because cheap labor generates higher profit. There's nothing inherently wrong with any of it. That's the world we live in. American companies freely entered into agreements with Chinese companies in order to generate even higher profits from 1.3 billion customers. China has the workers and customers, we have the tech. It works out for everyone. Wall Street didn't whine when US companies got massive profits from slave labor in China and other countries. American consumers like the cheap things we can buy from Walmart and Target, all with the "Made in China" label.

Then Trump comes around and says China did something wrong. What exactly did they do that we didn't already know? Sure they steal from us, but we steal from them. We don't pay their people a decent wage so we steal from every single person who works for companies that make things for American consumers. How is slave labor considered morally right? It's not. It's not about what's right. It's about profits and cheap goods. We made this deal and now we're walking away from it because we're afraid they're beating us.
