The last 3 yrs (I didn’t look farther back), but despite taking distributions of about 4%, our acct balances have averaged 5% total gains the year before that it was over 7%, again despite taking 4% distributions. Even more like 9% total return above SP500 if not for the last few weeks. We made no fundamental changes to the holdings with two exceptions. Obviously we likely won’t do that well every year, but it has been fact that we’ve outperformed the SP500 4 years running and with minimal buying/selling.
