( BW)(BAY-NETWORKS)(BAY) Bay Networks Extends
Leadership in 10/100 Mbps Autosensing Switch Market with
New Models and Aggressive Pricing Structure

Business Editors/Computer Writers

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1998--

New BayStack 350T-HD at $149 Per Port; New 10/100 and Fast
Ethernet Hubs; and Price Reductions on BayStack 350, 303, 304
Switches

Bay Networks(R), Inc. (NYSE:BAY) today announced a new BayStack(TM)
350T-HD 10/100 switch, BayStack 250 Series 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX hubs
and BayStack 200 Series 100BASE-TX hubs. Bay Networks also introduced a
new, aggressive pricing structure for its award-winning BayStack 350 line
10/100 autosense switches and BayStack 303 and 304 Ethernet switches
intended to extend its dominant market position.
Bay Networks pioneered the 10/100 Mbps autosense workgroup switch
market with the introduction of the popular BayStack 350T last April, and
today owns more than 40 percent market share in this space, according to the
Dell'Oro Group's Q3, 1997 numbers. The BayStack 350T-HD 10/100 switch,
the latest addition to Bay Networks' popular BayStack family of products, is
being introduced at the breakthrough price of $149 per port with built-in
management, once again creating a new price benchmark in the switching
10/100 market.
Bay Networks also announced major price reductions of up to 30 percent on
the entire BayStack 350 product line. New breakthrough prices of $65 per port
for the BayStack Ethernet desktop switch, and $99 per port for BayStack 304
Ethernet segment switch, create new price points for customers in the 10 Mbps
managed switch market.
Bay Networks is also breaking price barriers in the 100 Mbps hub market
with the introduction of two new hubs. Both the BayStack 250 Series 10/100
Autosense hubs and BayStack 200 Series 100BASE-TX hubs are offered at
industry-leading prices as low as $75 per port, and include web-based network
management at no additional cost, giving end-users and customers an
easy-to-use, cost-effective remote management tool.
"The new BayStack products are the industry's best-in-class desktop
solutions with 10/100 shared media at $75/port and 10/100 switched media at
$149/port," said Lloyd Carney, executive vice president of the Bay Networks
Enterprise Business Group. "And, Bay Networks' award-winning Accelar
routing switches offer BayStack customers the option of adding 1000 Mbps
Gigabit Ethernet transmission speeds and Layer 3 Ethernet switching to their
Layer 2 environments. That's evidence of our commitment to providing our
customers with open solutions that meet their current and future connectivity
requirements."
"The BayStack 350T couldn't have made the transition from 10 Mbps to 100
Mbps any easier. It was a straight-forward 'plug and play' replacement for our
three 10 Mbps hubs," said Craig Miller, president of Pictographics, a large
format digital printing service bureau. "The Bay Networks equipment met or
exceeded every performance expectation we had for the upgrade. The BayStack
350T continues to be the ideal solution for us."

BayStack 350T-HD 10/100 Autosense Switch

The BayStack 350T-HD is Bay Networks' newest, high-density, low-cost
Ethernet switch with 24 autosense 10BASE-T/100-BASE-TX ports. The
350T-HD facilitates high-density switched configurations in the wiring closet,
for maximum price-per-port value, an important consideration for enterprise
customers. As network performance requirements increase, any equipment
upgrades from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps will be autosensed and supported without
administrative intervention.
The versatile switch can be used as a 10 Mbps segment switch, a 10+100
segment switch, a 10+100 Mbps desktop switch, a 100 Mbps segment switch
or a 100 Mbps desktop switch. The BayStack 350T-HD has 24 auto-negotiating
ports that operate in either 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX mode. Any of the
switched ports can be used for uplinks to network or data centers. Each port
supports automatically adjusting, high-speed, full-duplex connections to
servers or backbone switches, or half-duplex connections to legacy network
interface cards (NICs) and hubs.

BayStack 250 Series 10/100 Autosense Hubs

The BayStack 250 Series of autosense 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX hubs is a
medium-density, stackable 10/100 Mbps Ethernet repeater system. With prices
as low as $75 per port and featuring a multi-segment cascade with advanced
management capabilities, the BayStack 250 Series 10/100 hubs deliver
industry leading price/performance, feature-rich hubs that offer both SNMP-
and built-in, web-based management.
Three versions of the BayStack 250 10/100 hubs are available: BayStack
250, a 12-port model with built-in network management module (NMM) and an
integrated 10/100 segment switch; and BayStack 251 and 252; 12 and 24 port
manageable models that can be used within the stack or for stand-alone
connectivity. Up to five units can be stacked for 112 managed ports.

BayStack 200 Series 100BASE-TX Hubs

The BayStack 200 Series 100BASE-TX Hubs are available in four versions:
a 12 port model with built-in network management module (NMM); a 12-port
model with built-in NMM and 100BASE-FX port; plus 12- and 24-port
manageable models that can be used within the stack or for stand-alone
connectivity where management is not required. BayStack 200 hubs are
economical, easy-to-use, feature-rich hubs that deliver network flexibility and
reliability with both SNMP and web-based management. Up to eight units can
be stacked for 180 managed ports.
