No one wants to give our government the control over social media. However, we all know that social media is the modern digital public square where political speech must be protected. The tech companies have proven remarkably biased and terrible protectors of free political speech. Therefore, the government must step in to guarantee the 1st amendment rights of the people, just exactly as they do elsewhere. This isn't government control, rather, it is the primary function of government to guarantee the people our rights. Otherwise, if the government is unable to perform this function, then we have zero need of this government. One thing I can guarantee you is this. We have now a 1984 style surveillance nation, which is inimical not just to free speech, but to freedom in general. We leave things as is at our most extreme peril. Even the Democrats are now waking up to the fact that the tech companies are abusive oligopolies that no longer serve the best interests of the people. They went from slogans like "do no evil" to mass surveillance capitalists and working on efforts like "Project Dragonfly" to help China implement their technocratic totalitarianism through their censorship and social credit system. You may be ok with totalitarianism and lack of free speech, but I and most Americans are not. Corporate freedom from government regulation is worthless if the people are enslaved by lack of the freedom of speech and overbearing surveillance of all their online activities.

This coming 2020 election is a referendum on keeping the US economically powerful and lifting as many boats as possible through capitalism on the one side, and the vision for a regressive, totalitarian, Socialist vision from the 1940s and 1950s. It's already being used against Conservatives. Democrats and liberals, through their social media and MSM allies, are waging a cultural and propaganda war of annihilation against conservatives and all conservative values: * destruction of the family by making cultural heroes out of gay, lesbian, and transgender couples, while also denying the biological reality of binary gender, as a reality of nature, with middlesex people acknowledged as birth defects and abnormalities * waging a war against babies so that the 73% of women who have abortions just because they decided not to be careful during consensual sex, they want the right to kill a baby * waging a war against truth to make it so that honest and truthful debate is impossible because facts are hard to come by due to the barrage of propaganda and opinion pieces presented as fact * selling cultural marxism and identity politics to our young people, which serves to divide and balkanize the American people into highly emotional hate groups bound and determined to annihilate the white male, which once accomplished, will turn into a war against each other * selling the people Socialism and Communism as a highly desirable alternative to Capitalism, which we all know from history will destroy the USA's economic supremacy and turn us into a third world country incapable of pushing back against the real evil countries out there like Russia and China * selling the people atheism and anti-Christianity, as if Christian values were evil, when in reality modern Christians in the US and Europe are responsible for substantially all of the major progress that has occurred in Western Civilization, including the rights that women and minorities enjoy today and the unprecedented economic success that comes from Capitalism, Constitutional protections for Individuals and a respect for individuals over the collective, and an elevation of women to equal status, unlike in eastern cultures as well as the Muslim religion * selling the American people on the idea that legalization of drugs is good for this country, when any teenager with common sense can tell you the longer term consequences of anesthetizing and killing off brain cells can only have one long term outcome, which is the elevation of the Idiocracy in this country and the creation of drug addled people who must depend on the government for their subsidence * demonizing the rational people who know that Open Borders leads to chaos, lawlessness, higher taxes, strained public resources, and ultimately a poorer more unsafe country * war against free speech through social media and the MSM, so that any conservative speech is censored and we become monolithic in our thinking, and zero diversity of thought and the inability to speak out against injustice leads to tyranny Those are the things liberals and Democrats stand for. All of those things are diametrically opposed to what made this country great and are essentially a recipe for how to destroy this country. Brumar, we are in real trouble and I see no real way to turn the tide back. Trump is the last one. The Democrats will win either in 2020 or in 2024. Then everything above will become our permanent reality. I hope you are ready for it. I am not and I don't know where we can run when this totalitarianism comes to the US.
