dan6,
I agree with you that the board must guard against banning all dissenting opinions in a search for THE TRUTH on very complex world affairs (or as you term it PC thinking).

I have always found the great value of the board to be the differing perspectives from around the world as long as they are voiced civilly. I appreciate Jay's perspective from HK and greater China, but also Mq in NZ, the Canadians, the Europeans, and those from other points on the globe. I know Elmat could be trying at times, but I think the board lost something from his perch in Africa and Brazil.

I also agree that EJ could be provocative at times, but he also added a different, west coast perspective.

THE TRUTH is often elusive and differs depending upon where one stands on this big blue ball.

I hope board participants will not shut down (or drown out) dissent, but instead welcome all opinions.

Hello Dan6 and Gemlaoshi, and all here on the thread,

(1) I share a few cogent thoughts,

(1-i) My understanding is that on stock boards, certain behaviours are grounds for discipline whilst on political and hobby boards, not quite so

(1-ii) This board, our board, is certainly meant to be a macro board, but is also a 'hobby' board in that we are encouraged to dialogue on any and everything, just as would be the case for a neighbourhood cafe

I cite the introduction to this thread

<<Overarching Purpose: this thread shall try best to create the easy ambiance of an internet cafe situated in a politically-practical and gentrified neighbourhood where folks hang out 24-7-365 to ponder the process of collapse, have a cup, share a meal, tap on computers, and generally have a good time while fully cognisant that none shall get out of the future alive.>>

(1-iii) I banned Alex MG, and trust none here has an issue.

(1-iv) I banned elmatador, and given that his mission was to destroy the thread, and insulted all who participates, I have no qualms having banned him.

(1-v) I banned Elroy Jetson once before and after a suitable time as determined by me, issued him a pardon for insulting others. I did not ban him for holding contrary opinions.

(1-vi) I banned EugeneChen for spreading hate and for tacit encouragement of vile-ness.

I do not know who the poster actually is, but know that such small-, deficient-, vile- bad-actors exist everywhere, and that they know who they are, is enough.

(1-vii) I banned Elroy Jetson for the simply nasty suggestion that I am or arranged for EugeneChen as a ruse, false-flag, or whatever. Do I want to be put in a position where I am compelled to respond to false-charges, alt-mentions, and innuendos, here on this thread?

I do not care about what folks say about anything and about me on other threads, as such indicates more about such bad actors than anything about anyone else, me included.

And ... given that, inexplicably the before mentioned elmatador, bad actor dedicated to the destruction of this thread, proxied via the Jetson as the latter upped his tempo of ‘provocative’, I must suspect the Jetson aims for same. Investigation by way of casual perusal confirmed that the Jetson also accused me of wrongdoing on other threads.

(1-viii) I deliberated, do I wish to wake up to such nastiness and stick around for a cup of hot cocoa in the same venue as EugeneChen and Elroy Jetson?

If I leave, would the thread be better or worse off? Do I have a responsibility to all here?

(1-ix) ... and so now we are where we are.

(1-x) As a counter example, MQ and I have long held contrary views on many topics, and I have never had to deliberate on whether the MQ should be banned.

(1-xi) There had been others whom the thread had an issue with but I was okay with, and after suitable consultation / warnings, issued ban, and after a period, removed ban. I tried to do such without drama and give folks a chance to think about whether best to leave certain types of behaviour on other threads.

(1-xii) Even though thread rules permit me to act as police, judge, jury, and hangman, I do not enjoy the protocol, and avoid exercise of disciplinary action for as long as I can, preferring to tag via dialogue. Sometimes dialogue simply brings out the worst in a counterparty, necessitating more determined outcome

Trust you and all understand.

Best, tj
