Ricoh Enters Mega-Pixel Camera Market

Ricoh today joined the growing list of digital camera makers
rolling out megapixel models with the introduction of the
RDC-4300.

Expected to be on store shelves by the summer, the RDC-4300 is
expected to carry a sub-$1,000 street price and offer image
resolutions as high as 1,280x960. This resolution enables the
camera to make high-quality, 8x10-inch images in addition to
regular 3x5-inch images.

Following the trend to add film-based camera features, the
RDC-4300 features a zoom lens, an optical viewfinder, auto focus,
variable flash settings, exposure compensation and a mechanical
shutter to give the camera the feel of a film camera, a company
spokesman said. A 2-inch LCD is included for viewing stored images.

Ricoh uses a Toshiba 4MB SmartMedia flash memory card for image
storage. The camera can also record an eight-second sound bite
with each image.
