You and I share in that belief--that the leadership of Japan is first and foremost, patriotic. I might add that the leadership in the US also shares that sentiment. That Hashimoto wishes not to disrupt the world economies is a very noble gesture, however, it is meaningless. The weakness in the Asian economies is not a startling revelation. It has been predicted, by many--for example, John Kenneth Galbraith, the economist.

The leadership in the USA is at it's core corporate America. If the industrial power elite are severely affected by Japanese policy, it is their ability to manufacture a crisis. That is, to find the fall guy, lay blame, make demands. If all else fails, then the industrial elite call in the mighty military machine.
