Dear RFF - Personally, I pay very little attn to DLJ, MF and Yahoo msg boards. I certainly respect DMG cautious approach. GS's love of CSCO kinda makes the former not a disinterested party.

Dear Cruiser - while I do not know enough about the relationship bwtn pool-of-interest and shr buyback, I m wondering if the acctg is specific to different forms of buyback. If the shrs repurchased are not retired (to treasury) but are used for ESOP purposes, it does not affect the total shr outstanding (it only affects the float and to prevent new issuance.) Anyway, like i said, I really don't know the specifics, but I suspect that is a way to do it. It is true that with the networkers consolidating, many are gonna to use the stks as currency. That is why I made the if-and-only-if stmt. OTOH, Dr House and BAY mgt should also realize that are long term shr holders like Paul out there. Ok, if they ve waited this long, they can always wait another Q; however, mgt/shrholder/employees are in it together. Each should be rewarded.
