I was a broker, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that analysts' views are skewed by reasons other than stock's pure performance...
Investment banking relationships, being chicken, going along with the crowd (a favorite of less than independent thinkers), and just being too lazy to go out into the field and LOOK, rather than sitting at one's desk, listening to CCs, and making the occasional phone call are a few reasons.
Example of "research":
Brokerage firm performs investment banking via IPO...
30 days later, said firm puts out "Strong Buy" on stock (i.e. "booster shot")...
Stock goes up...
Stock goes down farther than it goes up....
That's the way of WS.
