You're very right... I landed at Midway 21 years after that battle, but you could feel the history right there as you stand on the hot beach and look out over the water...

We landed about 6:30 am and the instant we stepped out the door of the plane and onto the steps leading down to the tarmac you could feel the intense heat, it was so incredibly hot there and so early in the morning... we had breakfast in a sweltering hot tent, big fans were blowing but it only made us feel like we were in a giant convection oven... we were glad to get back on board that C-130 and take off again a few hours later... I remember that day very well...
