From Another Thread: "Baby girls watch their mothers to learn how to handle men, and are quite proficient at manipulative skills like pouting, side-long glances and eyelash batting by the age of two."

And some never outgrow these infantile tactics. Intelligent parents discourage manipulative behavior in their children.

Penni,

I have to chime in here to say that Nancy Drew was my favorite childhood read, and I think I must have read most of the first twenty or so books in that series. I never did read any of the other children's book series.

I do hope that they haven't liberalized Nancy in the name of bringing the stories up to date and making her au courant. If you stop and think about it, she and the stories were perfect the way they were and would port quite nicely, I think, into today.

BTW, there are discussion groups on Usenet for most of the childhood books and book series.

Holly

>Trixie (sounds like the streetname of a hooker)<

Ooooooh! I got a sister named Trixie. She got teased because back then&there, it was considered a canine moniker.

We started reading the new Hardy boys tonite. Their mother was "pretty" their father was " tall and athletic" No on second thought it must have been the old Hardy boys. The new one would have a tall and athletic mom I would hope. I just checked it was written in ?1937???could that be right. You are right it must have been Cherry Ames. Was there ever a group of sisters called the Lemon Sisters?
