The HackerRank chart is interesting but also not straight forward to interpret. The majority taking the coding challenges would be young, up and coming developers seeking to hone their skills and to prove themselves to potential employers. And who is using it (and who is not) may vary greatly by country.

So for example, the chart may be saying that China has a surplus of young skilled developers seeking opportunities and looking to prove themselves. As generally, a proven developer would have no reason to participate in the coding exercises. In other words, it may be more forward looking and less now...hard to say for sure, but I feel that it is trying to tell us something...
