>>Java VM...
I do not know any details on this. However speculating.... In the past, IFMX has tended to rely on the platform's standard solution for most situations. Therefore, I believe that IFMX will probably rely on a VM furnished by each hardware vendor (or SCO, on Intel Unix). I see IFMX supporting these features only on those who want to make that level of commitment, and meet a certain level of support of Java in the VM.

The reason to do this is to allow the manufacturer to work to optimize the VM for their hardware, instead of taking that load on themselves. Further, as we move toware Java co-processors, the vendor's implementation should provide a reasonable interface equivalent so that the same software could run with and without the co-processor (remember the optional 8087 chips).

This strategy would be consistent with past IFMX way of doing things.

Incidentally, the Java announcements were last spring and early summer, about the time all the other notice on the problems of IUS and the economic problems, and I believe that they got lost in the noise.
