I believe now and then when very windy and rainy I get some issues watching live as it points through a big oak tree.

If I download (rather than record on the DVR) a show to watch on the "rentals" then it seems I can only watch it if I am currently paying.... so downloading a bunch of stuff when given a free preview doesn't work but if you store it after it was broadcast when I paid or got free preview, ti seems to work fine.

I have a TiVo, and I use a free app called cTiVo for my Mac if I want to copy things from it to make available for viewing elsewhere.

It does not allow me to copy any HBO shows I've recorded, they are greyed out in the listing.

cTiVo is good, but it takes a very long time to copy and encode shows. For example, a 4-hour Super Bowl might take most of a day.

As for TiVo fees, I hate paying $22+/mo. for my TiVo fee, but I plan to buy a used Roamio model soon –– probably the 500GB model that includes a lifetime subscription –– then simply upgrade the hard drive inside to a much larger model from Weaknees.com. Goodbye monthly TiVo fees!
