re "Only if you think Time began in 1952, which is as far back as records go in Anchorage."

Hello ig,

Time actually did begin around 1952 for me, because my earliest memories date back to that era. I suppose you're thinking of longer-term climate variation, but I tend to focus on my own existence which is just a blip in the scheme of things.

The scariest thing here now is the possibility of devastating wildfire as the drought continues. Our worst-case scenario is a California-style conflagration in the outskirts of town, with many structures being destroyed. Fortunately for me, I live in a safer part of town.

We have a cool North Pacific coastal climate here, so our homes and lifestyles are not set up for this kind of prolonged heat. This has resulted in a frantic run on ice, bottled water, fans, air conditioners, kiddie pools, ice cream treats, and whatnot.

People are leaving their homes and going to air-conditioned malls and theaters to cool off, or simply driving around in their air-conditioned cards.

I've discovered that an afternoon siesta helps one survive a heat wave. I guess it's true what they say: Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun! ;)
