Trump: I Ended All Homelessness In Washington, D.C. That’s A Lie.

[ There were homeless people starting to appear in DC but the President put a stop to it by commanding them to cut it out. ]

Trump makes some confusing claims about homelessness during a Fox News interview.

During a Fox News interview, Trump was asked by host Tucker Carlson about problems on city streets, such as “junkies” and “filth.” Although he never specifically used the world, Trump then began to talk about homelessness. CNN fact checks his comments.

"You know, I had a situation when I first became president, we had certain areas of Washington, DC, where that was starting to happen, and I ended it very quickly. I said, 'You can't do that.' When we have leaders of the world coming in to see the President of the United States and they're riding down a highway, they can't be looking at that. I really believe that it hurts our country. They can't be looking at scenes like you see in Los Angeles and San Francisco."

Although this comment is difficult to fact check, as it is extremely vague, CNN says that Trump has not provided proof of what he seems to be referencing. There is not any evidence that Trump did something to “end” any issues concerning homeless people in D.C.

When Carlson asked about the “filth” in cities, Trump said: “It’s a phenomena that started two years ago. It’s disgraceful. I’m going to maybe- and I’m looking at it very seriously… we’re looking at it very seriously because you can’t do that.”

It is extremely unclear what Trump is talking about. If he is talking about homelessness, it most certainly did not start two years ago.

Trump continued that people are “living in hell” on the streets and some areas that used to be “beautiful” are now dirtied. He continued, “We may intercede. We may do something to get that whole thing cleaned up. It’s inappropriate. Now, we have to take the people and do something. We have to do something.”

One attorney at the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, Amber Harding, said, “I really couldn’t possibly even guess what he’s talking about, or what happened in 2017. No idea.”

The federal government’s annual assessment reveals that during Trump’s presidency, the number of homeless people has increased for two years.
