Yes, Alex, we probably are talking about different things. I think that when you become a parent you will almost certainly be a wonderful one, as I have expressed before. A FALLBACK position of Unquestioned final Authority, seldom used but always in reserve, is something that parents in all the parenting styles except the permissive one have. I have it too. I cannot remember ever using it, except in an emergency, but there are times when your child MUST do what you tell her, right now, and I think they can tell from your presence when that's the deal. My parents were very inconsistent and permissive, which is very unfortunate for the child. I was taken care of by my Victorian grandmother, and saw little of my mother as a preschooler, so it is almost like we had different parents, but I can tell you for sure my brother is a real mess!!!!
