I've been advising family members to buy used 2015 15-inch MacBook Pros due to the better keyboard and lack of Touch Bar.

That model now has a recall for replacement of the battery, but I think PC manufacturers have run into similar issues before as well. Seems to be par for the course with Li-ion batteries these days.

I don't know about durability, but I have a family member who treats his and his wife's old MacBooks pretty roughly, and other than dings and worn spots, the most that has happened to them is missing rubber pads on the bottom corners. Those are easy and cheap to replace.
