They want to be paid the same as men even though they can't beat a boys high school team.
I'm pretty sure Serena Williams gets paid more than a typical NCAA male tennis player from USC.

It's all about the revenue generated. I've seen articles showing that women's soccer in America generates more revenue than men's soccer:

US women’s soccer games now generate more revenue than men’s—but the players still earn less

Of course when you look at the global market, men's soccer still makes tons more money than women's soccer, but I think it's fair to only look at the American market in this case.
