Flipping Minnesota

Don Surber

The very stable genius did it again on Sunday. President Donald John Trump took on Ilhan Omar. This was a brilliance so obvious that I gave away his reasoning in the headline.

The press and concern trolls at Red State wrung their hands. They think that because of her race, religion and sex, Omar is unassailable.

But the deplorables no longer care. Decades of liberals calling us worse names have rendered the labels meaningless.

President Trump tweeted, "So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run.

"Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!"

He did not mention anyone's race or religion.

He said go back, but he followed it up with, "Then come back and show us how it is done."

The press cherry-picked the text for scary quotes.

President Trump does not care.

He knows these fools of the Fourth Estate are dishonest, disliked, and distrusted.

The same is true for the Four Fools in Congress.

Axios reported that an internal poll showed Omar has a favorable rating of 9% among swing voters. She is in the middle of an internecine battle in the Democrat Party.

Donald Trump is enjoying it.

But that is not why he mocked her. He sees 10 Electoral College votes in the Land of Lakes.

He lost Minnesota by 45,000 votes. It is a state Republicans have not carried in 47 years.

The Star-Tribune reported, "Days after President Donald Trump officially announced his 2020 re-election bid, Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan attended a picnic on the White House lawn. As they posed for a selfie, the state GOP leader thanked the president for making three visits to the state since taking office.

"'I told him, ‘We appreciate you coming and we hope to see you here at least as many times before the election next year,’' Carnahan said.

"The president’s response: 'I will be there.'

"Minnesotans have picked the Democratic nominee for the White House in every election since 1972. Trump, who lost the state by just 1.5 percentage points in 2016, believes he can end that streak. With 15 months to go until the general election, the GOP is doubling down on efforts to turn Minnesota red, putting national campaign staff on the ground and hosting a series of training sessions to mobilize Republican voters."

Republicans provide the ground game. President Trump whips up the crowd.

The midterm election gave Minnesota Democrats big wins. They took all six statewide races.

But the 2018 election also gave Republicans Ilhan Omar.

President Trump knows what to do. He is using Omar to show America just who Democrats really are. They hate it.

His question is valid. Why doesn't she go back to the land of her birth and help out? She is supposed to be this big bleeding heart liberal. Somalis in Somalia need the help. The ones in Minnesota are doing fine.

Several Trump supporters are asking Trump to stop importing so much uranium from the former Soviet Union. I expected Trump to refuse out of loyalty to Putin. And he DID refuse. He's Putin's pet and won't act to defend the US from Russia..

Here Are The Lawmakers Urging Trump To Slap Restrictions On Foreign Uranium

Republican lawmakers are urging President Donald Trump to impose steep quotas on uranium imported from Russia as critics say the U.S. is too dependent on foreign countries for fuel powering America’s electric grid.

Reps. Rob Bishop of Utah, Liz Cheney of Wyoming, Louie Gohmert of Texas, and Matt Gaetz of Florida were among a handful Republicans asking Trump to set aside 25 percent of the U.S. uranium market for domestic production. Their request comes as the president considers whether to place quotas on imported uranium products.

“Our country’s growing dependence on foreign, state-owned sources of uranium is a threat to the national security and taking action to secure the domestic free market supply of this critical mineral is a national security imperative,” they said in a letter Thursday to the president.

Trump is facing a Saturday deadline to decide whether to impose quotas under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, which gives the president authority to probe the national-security impact of imports and take action if necessary. The Commerce Department submitted the results of such an investigation in April to the White House.

The probe was prompted by a petition filed by two U.S. uranium mining companies, Ur-Energy Inc and Energy Fuels Inc, complaining that subsidized foreign competitors have caused them to cut capacity and lay off employees.

A representative with the Western Caucus, which crafted and distributed the letter, says lawmakers are keeping tabs on the process.

“Congressmen Paul Gosar and Andy Biggs have long sounded the alarm on the dangers of America’s overreliance on foreign uranium,” Congressional Western Caucus spokesman Ben Goldey said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “The Western Caucus is monitoring the Section 232 investigation closely, and we look forward to the results.”

Civilian nuclear power plants and U.S. Navy nuclear submarines rely on U.S. uranium, the production of which has plummeted since the 1980s, meaning more of it is coming from abroad. Trump, for his part, is targeting China’s uranium exports as he continues throttles the communist country’s trade practices.

The president is especially focusing on uranium (U-235) reactor components and machinery to separate isotopes. The U.S. gets a very small percentage of its uranium from China, so the tariffs in this area probably won’t have much effect.

What could upset the U.S. nuclear industry is retaliation from China, which is planning to build at least 100 nuclear plants through 2030 to reduce its reliance on coal power. China is largely dependent on foreign imports of uranium and equipment to build nuclear plants.

Trump turns down uranium import curbs

— In a first for Donald Trump, the president turned down the opportunity to impose new import restrictions, this time on uranium. The decision comes despite his administration’s finding that current import volumes threaten U.S. national security.
.................
TRUMP TURNS DOWN SECTION 232 URANIUM IMPORT CURBS: For the first time since taking office, Trump has turned down a chance to use Section 232 of the 1962 Trade Expansion Act to restrict imports.

The announcement came late Friday in a case involving uranium. Trump said he didn’t agree with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’ conclusion that the current volume of uranium imports pose a threat to national security. A last-minute bid by 26 Republican House members to persuade Trump to curb the imports was unsuccessful.

Trump says he will not impose uranium quotas
WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump says he will not impose quotas on importing uranium, backing away from a possible trade confrontation and breaking with a Commerce Department assessment that America’s use of foreign uranium raises national security concerns.

The decision is unusual for Trump, who has pointed to national security concerns in calling for restrictions on foreign metal and autos in trade negotiations. It’s also drawing rare criticism from Republicans in energy-rich states.

Uranium is a vital component for the U.S. nuclear arsenal, submarines and power plants, which prompted a monthslong Commerce Department investigation into whether such materials fall under the national security umbrella. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has said that just 5 percent of the uranium the U.S. needs for military and electricity generation comes from domestic production. Russia, China and other countries supply the rest.
