I bought a small position in AWRE at 10.5 and unloaded at 14. Missed the spike. As for WSTL, it has to get its management straightened out before it can be taken seriously. And with all the hype on DSL Lite, they don't have a strong tie-in so the market doesn't know what to do with them. If the consortium announces DMT, as I've been told they will, it'll appear worse for them than it is since they're still associated with CAP. Aware was fortunate to have brought out a press release before the consortium made its announcement. Once the Street figures out all the major players have similar products, there'll be less confusion.

Ascend stands to gain as much by the splitterless announcement as anyone. This means the telcos will be forced to meet consumer demand. Instead of waiting for cable competition to get them off their corporate duffs, consumers will speak with their business. First ISP or CLEC to offer matching transmission speeds will get their account and then it's bye-bye PacBell, USWest, BellSouth, or whomever.

We may not like Gates teaming with Intel and Compaq to flex this kind of muscle, but, honestly, I don't know what else will make the telcos move. I've even heard a rumor that AT&T may team with a major cable company just because they can't reach the local market any other way. Mind you, this is just heresay, but it does make you stop and wonder.

Now, what was that you asked???? :)
