Del,

Each quarter we play guess BORL's revenue and earnings. Care to take a guess for this quarter? You might even win.

Regards

Tom

ps: Of course you realize I am joking.

Hello, Mr. Yocam,

Very excited to meet you here, the leader of the New Borland.

I started using Borland products since Borland C++ 2.0, then 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, C++ builder, Delphi, Intrabuilder, JBuilder... Compared with other products, I always say to myself and my friends, Borland is the best.

Borland has so many loyal customers and stock holders like the people here. We all saw and believe Borland is the BEST!!!

Best wish to you and Borland.

Dongyan Wang

This must be a first: A major CEO of a major company taking the time to chat with the grass-roots investors. Extremely laudable.

Although I used Paradox2, I have followed the Borland story only after you joined the company and that is when it got interesting.

Maybe when you get a chance you can comment on the timing of the announcement of the VSGN deal. Obviously, BORL was riding strongly upward. I suspect there must be some strong advantage to doing the deal at that high point, but what was it? The fall of share price to nearly half of that high level after the news must have been some kind of sticker shock. Did you anticipate the backlash? What was the strategic timing of deal then, if any? Thanks a million for listening and especially responding once in a while (not too often-you have a company to run (G). Jim

RE: Welcome and Questions!

Del,

Let me join the rest by extending a sincere WELCOME to you! It is quite an honor that you've joined our discussion, and I hope that you get as much out of it as we do. Things have been much more upbeat around here since you took the helm, and the consistent, steady turnaround at Borland is very much noticed and appreciated.

I do have a couple questions that I hope you could answer:

1) With the announcement of the upcoming VSGN acquisition, many of us were quite surprised that the $50 million ($25 raised, $25 more available) of private financing from 6/97 wasn't used. This money was earmarked for investing in or acquiring technology. What happened with it?

2) The management team that you've put in place is top notch. I especially appreciate the fact that you've made some appointments from within, particularly Zack Urlocker. You've built quite a team. What areas (if any) do you feel are still lacking at Borland?

3) What day are you reporting earnings?

Dear Mr. Yocam,

First I want to compliment you on the strategic commercial focus you have brought to Borland. I have watched Borland focus on technology (Delphi 2 not being compatible with Win31) to pursue the early adopters and ignore the commercial implications of the main line upgrade stream. Your new team is to be applauded for it's focus on balancing technology leadership with revenue growth.

I'm voting my shares for the VSGN deal but one serious question:

Since you pre-announced and your current quarter number is now not "insider information", what would prevent Borland form going into the market and buying back a number of shares at the currently ridiculous price to reduce the dilution of my ownership and that of the other longer term owners of Borland.

I have to believe that another $3-$5 Million in positive cash flow this quarter should allow you to declare the revenue base stable and use some cash to crush the shorts that love to pound this stock!!

Best Regards, Pat

Good evening, Mr Yocam

I have long believed that the internet, and SI in particular, are indispensible tools in that they afford an investment community layman such as myself an insight and perspective not otherwise available through traditional chanels.

That a CEO of well known NASDAQ listed company has chosen to interact with members of a chat group says a lot. Firstly, it confirms and validates how important and closely monitored these public forums have become.

Secondly, it says much about your dedication to the cause when you joined our little thread at a time when shareholders such as myself have been somewhat critical of BORL in general. It was a lot easier to come aboard during the run up to 12, than it was now. For that I applaud your courage and class.

I may not have necessarily doubted you in particular , but I believe we can all breathe a little easier tonight. Had my worse fears ( however irrational) been an even remote possibility, you would not have have put yourself out on a limb.

And for that, Mr Yocam, I sincerely thank you.

Gene Piccoli

Del,

I have not followed BORL ever, tell now. Are you one of the first few to find the power of the Internet... and not be afraid of it??

Thanks for braving the new waters of this new medium. I think your keen observation of the power of the Internet will reward you. Besides, isn't the profile of the typical SI poster fit the profile of your customers?

I look forward to monitoring the progress of BORL and learning it's story.

Rex

PS, I remember you when you worked at Momenta. I worked next door in Mt. View.

Welcome Del,

Its nice to see you taking this grass roots interest in your customers and investors (Here you get to talk to both with one posting).

If you've been following this forum for long, you know we just guess each quarter (some quarters we know) when the earnings are going to be released. It would be great if you or Denise would post here after the end of a quarter, the Earnings Release Date. I'm sure everyone here would appreciate it.

Thanks for your interest.

Charles Hays

Mr. Yocam:

As (1) a long-term user of Borland products, (2) a stockholder, on and off, for years -- in fact, since the company's inception, and (3) a holder of call options who lost a bunch overnight on the VSGN announcement, I say, "Keep doing what you're doing.".

I, for one, am sick to death of corporate officers who can't see beyond the next interim statements, and I think it is great to have one running Borland that has vision.
