Re: Sony discussion

WHO CARES?

Sorry, but with earnings coming out tomorrow, that is absolutely the last thing on my mind.

And I am officially now a long term investor, having held this sucker for over 3 months. <ggg>

Why will floppy's be around for a long time? It is like the 45 and 78 records. Gone! No reason for them, software isn't sold in them anymore, CD's and DVD's are in for mass storage, ZIP's and Tape are there for backup and fast rewriting and temporary storage. Why will floppy's be around. SYQT will be around and so will their debt. Maybe SYQT will finance PNCL's debt and takeover the APEX before the bankruptcy hearing.

Re: Cost factor

I agree, cost is a major determining factor and could result in any new product displacing the Zip. This assumes of course, like you said, "It is fast enough, and has all the functionality." I would add that the OEM cost would need to not only match, but be significantly better than the Zip before the bulk of the boxmakers would be sold on making the change.

In the case of HiFD, I'll say it again, I don't believe they can reach this price point. They won't have the volume, the technology appears to be more complex, there are more components, and the cost of the Zip if and when HiFD is released is unknown but certainly will be lower than today's cost.

I agree with KE in not being overly concerned at a technology announcement, and to wait until there's a real product out there.
