PairGain Technologies Selects Harris Semiconductor As Its DMT ADSL Analog Front
End Supplier
Business Editors, Computers/Electronics Writers
MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 23, 1998--Harris
Semiconductor announced today that they have been selected by
PairGain Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PAIR) as the analog front end
(AFE) supplier for their discrete multi-tone (DMT)-based ADSL
solution. The AFE consists of the HC6094 ADSL front-end chip and
the HI5905 14 bit 5 Msps A/D converter. The HC6094 and HI5905
provide the analog front-end functions for the PairGain Falcon DMT
RADSL (Discrete Multi-Tone Rate-adaptive Asymmetric Digital
Subscriber Line) chip announced January 21, 1998. "We selected
Harris to develop the ADSL AFE because of their demonstrated
capability in mixed signal, converter and analog technologies," says
Howard Flagg, president of PairGain. "The Harris front end gives our
DMT-based ADSL solution superior performance across the
analog/digital interfaces, which is critical to achieving the highest
data rate at the longest reach for our customers."
The Harris chip set, fabricated using Harris' Bi-CMOS process,
consists of the Harris HC6094 ADSL analog front-end chip and
HI5905 14-bit/5Msps analog to digital converter. The HC6094
provides key functions for both the transmit and receive signal
chains. It includes a 14-bit DAC, reconstruction filters and a
programmable gain stage on the transmit side. On the receive side, a
high impedance, low noise programmable gain amplifier and anti-alias
filters are provided. The HI5905 offers 14 bit resolution at 5 Msps
to digitize the receive waveform. The chipset is suitable for both
central office and customer premises implementations.
"This is definitely a major design win for us," added Mick
Denham, Harris' vice president of signal processing products. "It
gives us a chance to showcase our mixed signal and communications
systems capability. By bringing a high performance AFE to market we
can now service the immediate needs of our customers which require an
integrated solution for their ADSL needs."
PairGain Technologies, Inc., the xDSL (high-speed Digital
Subscriber Line) market leader, designs, manufactures and markets
communications systems that allow telephone companies, PTTs, other
service providers and organizations with private networks to more
efficiently and quickly deploy high-speed data, video and voice
services to end users over the existing infrastructure of copper
telephone lines.
PairGain's HiGain(R), PG-Plus(TM), PG-Flex(TM), Megabit Access
and campus area network products are marketed under the trademark,
CopperOptics(R), indicating their ability to provide fiber optic
quality transmission over the "last mile" in both public and private
networks worldwide.
