You people keep focusing on the access method rather than the product. AOL/Internet is far
superior. I wonder if any of you have actually used @home.

No, I have not used @Home, so I don't know what it offers. But I use the web via a regular ISP (Earthlink), and I don't see how AOL offers much extra value. Most of the valuable stuff is available for anyone on the web.

Its the speed, sir. I access AOL thru telephone modem before I had Roadrunner cable modem service. And used to wait for stuff to download. AOL over telephone is limited to 14.4 or 28.8 ot 33.6 or 57.6 if you are lucky enuf to have the right connections. I now access aol via my cable modem for 9.95 per month and it is much faster. But more importantly, i accessed the entire internet at a much faster speed than my telephone modem ever allowed, either directly thru my former ISP, or thru AOL. It the speed. sir. Larrry

I can't believe that you think AOL is better than say, Earthlink or Mindspring. I had AOL. It was and is a disaster. My customers are afraid to leave AOL even though thay have endless problems. What are you talking about?

That's the popular myth that Beta was better than VHS. That's all it was, a myth. I used to believe that 25 years ago, but I had an astute engineer show me what the issue was all about. The myth was dispelled.

Please explain the difference between AOL and AOL/Interbnet. I'm not understanding something here because the AOL I know is %&$#^@&$!

...It's like talking about the method in which you project the movie on the screen rather than discussing the merits of the movie itself.

Actually, it's like talking about the method by which you project a movie on the screen versus the inability to project. I hear what you are saying insofar as the service itself is concerned, but the point of RoadRunner and @Home are way high-speed data transfers so that you can click on audio and video material to watch and listen as well as read. AOL is not an Internet-based service but that is for historical versus technical reasons. AOL will not be able to compete with these high-speed services and what will likely happen is that they will upgrade their technology to use standard Internet-based interfaces. In other words, you will be able to join AOL without going through their proprietary, excruciatingly slow, network.
