MSFT, CPQ, INTC are investing in everything because they don't have a clue. The problem is that the technology of the last 10 years is running out of gas. We've had it. Nothing works. Everything is betaware. Technology is a total disaster and is headed into an unrelenting bear market except for the companies that have a good product but have not been able to make headway because the behemoths had used their market power to legally constrain competition and the buyers of technology are fearful that their megapurchases will be undermined if they do something that is better. But bigger is so ghastly inefficient that you don't need the DOJ to do anything. The dinosaurs can't eat enough to stay alive. The Tyrannosaurus, INTC, will be killed by speed. Processor speed. There's no added value in added processor speed. I noticed this two years ago. It isn't worth anything to increase my 166 pentium to 266. I never wait for anything. My applications demand more processor speed than 80% of the 60 million installed base. They don't need 266. INTC has to improve the on-chip quality, but that is expensive and margins are thin and markets are narrow. Do you hear, institutions? You might as well sell INTC. I won't talk about MSFT. IE is a great product, but...and those dots say it all. I've trashed SUNW but they are viable. If they would lower their prices, top line would rise! I believe that with ATHM you just got to buy and hold. Don't trade, don't sell calls, don't margin. Raise cash in the techs that have had a tremendous '95 - '97 bull market, and stay out of the stock market.
