Re: Through a SI search on BGS.

I have never thought BGS will be acquired. Its brands were originally for the most part "orphan brands" other companies wanted to dispose of and BGS bought them, tried to polish them up with better packaging, marketing, and sometimes expanding the product line. So I don't know why a larger company would want to buy a company of "cast-offs".

At least that was the model. More recently, primarily under the recently retired CEO, Cantwell - who was a numbers guy, previously the CFO, they made larger acquisitions, notably Green Giant, but also others. So they now have some larger brands such as GG, Ortega, and maybe some others that would appeal to an acquirer but why would a buyer want Underwood's Deviled Ham, Accent, and so on. Of course I may be completely wrong.

Meanwhile, those smaller brands have been flat or worse in some cases. Is that because they have not focused on the prior "shine 'em up" model, or the general problems with "middle of the store" products or a combination? I don't know. The new CEO is I think more of an operations guy rather than a numbers guy so we'll see. They report August 1 and that may tell a lot. Again, we'll see.

I've owned since that days each share was composed of both equity and debt and it has overall been a happy holding for me but the last couple of years have been nasty for sure.
