DJ Tony Keyes has more riding on the millennium than most. He has offered any of his 3.5 million listeners $10,000 (œ6,250) if they can show the year 2000 bomb will not seriously disrupt society.
The Washington DC-based radio host became enraged after hearing media commentators pour scorn on theories that the bug will cause problems with infrastructure.

He told Computer Weekly, "I want to go on record, putting my money where my mouth is. We are now faced with an inevitable socio-economic disaster, which will be felt around the world."
