Sounds like you got a good deal on it.

Eh, things are pretty much the same as Snow Leopard, just a lot more grayscale and with some "hide-and-seek" interface elements thrown in. More features too, of course, but it's hit and miss. One thing I really love that they added was tabs within Finder windows.

I like to blame Jony Ive for the GUI problems the macOS Finder has, but I don't know how much of it is really his fault. At best he was asleep at the wheel while many of problems were allowed to exist though, so I'm glad he's on his way out.

As for the changes, I two of the biggest I've already mentioned –– the grayscale look of the Finder and tabs within Finder windows.

If you check out the Wikipedia articles for each version of OS X/macOS since Snow Leopard, they will give you a good idea of the new features in each release.
